Five-hundred miles is quite a long way to drive for Sunday lunch. Anyone reading this in the oil-starved future will think we were absolutely crazy, even criminal, to do such a thing.
It was a bit extreme, but Max and Inna had bought Margaret a meal for two (Sunday lunch) at River Cottage, the project created by celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall.
Hugh FW created a gourmet fad for foraged food, then home-grown food and locally sourced food. River Cottage, near Axminster in Devon, is a farm he bought and it now serves as a location for various TV series featuring his latest food project, also a restaurant, garden, farm and centre for courses on bread-making and the like.
Margaret loves Hugh and so do Max and Inna. I can tolerate him in small doses.
It was a good present and we had a really nice time looking round the place, seeing his pigs and his polytunnels.
The meal was good and we had some nice company, the only drawback was the long drive to Dorset in the morning and the long drive back to Peterborough in the afternoon.
